What is a Foot Reading Report?

By Sam Belyea a.k.a. The Foot Whisperer

Picture
In my book Foot Reading: A Reflexology Primer on Foot Assessment, I share a neat trick that I’ve picked up along my journey, having read thousands of feet – The Foot Reading Report. This is a tool of my own design that came from so many people sending in their foot pictures and wanting an extensive summary of what I saw. But it started to get time consuming!!!

So, I politely asked to be compensated for the information and in exchange I would generate a formal document, about three pages and 1,000 to 1,500 words long, going into exact physical and mental/emotional detail about what their feet had to say. This was a tremendous success, and so The Foot Reading Report was born!

Some of you may be familiar with a Natal Chart, or a document created by an Astrologer who analyzes the position and meaning of the planets at the time of one’s birth. I’m kind of doing that, except I take pictures of the feet, find key markers that (in this example) are kind of like planets and explain their meaning. Just like a Natal Chart, I am able to tell key personality traits and themes that surround one’s life. Unlike a Natal Chart, I can only see what the body deems as a relevant issue through its manifestation of physical markers on the feet; meaning that I have a more physically-grounded and less metaphysical approach to get the information within my report.

Still, the concept is a fascinating one. By breaking up the feet into Horizontal Zones and Vertical Zones of Influence, I can see an exact physical grid of the body through the feet based on Reflexology theory. Also, by using the internal meanings within the same grid, I can see someone’s past and present stressors that may be influencing various aches, pains and dis-ease to become physically manifest. Because of this process, I tend to generate these reports for people who have mysterious foot issues that no one can make sense of. From a modern medical standpoint there may be no explanation, but Reflexology and Foot Reading theory always give a unique perspective to consider.

The report itself normally takes one to two days for me to write up, in between seeing other clients for hands-on Reflexology and remote Foot Reading Consultations. The result of the report is a simple and easy-to-read document that gives tremendous insight into the body’s natural holistic interconnectedness. With that being said, let me outline some key parts of the report:

Introduction & Key Words – The Beginning of the Report
Now, you as the recipient are most likely not a Foot Reader, so there is a moment at the beginning of a Foot Reading Report that I will thank the client for purchasing the report and also inform them on some key Reflexology and Foot Reading theories that are pertinent to the report’s information. This is VERYimportant because it builds context and educates the client to better understand the meanings within; kind of like a taste of what’s to come. Interesting to note, I will generally write this section at the end, after I’ve written the rest of the report, to most accurately describe what needs to be known upfront.

Photos & Meanings – The Body of the Report
This is the meat of a Foot Reading Report, where I will take the photos given to me by the client, circle the markers I am talking about and then break each one down into its physical and mental/emotional meanings. The format goes a little something like this:

1. The photo will be on the right side of the page with the markers I’m talking about circled in a bright color to distinguish them.
2. To the left, I will begin with a brief explanation of the photo’s characteristics that helps to further set the stage for the individual marker meanings.
3. I then break down each marker into two distinct meanings, starting with the physical meaning of the reflex location and elements of the symptom, then moving to the mental/emotional significance.

I cannot begin to explain to you how important it is that I include both the physical and mental/emotional meaning for each marker within the report. This way, clients will be able to take their pick of which version of the story makes the most sense to them and they get both should they choose to be more open minded. However, as a Foot Reader, I know that the physical and mental/emotional aspects of a person cannot possibly be separated and both are equally present within the person at all times. This entire process really gives the recipient of the report something to chew on that I will then bring together in the last section.

Summary, Tips and Signature/Disclaimer – The Closing of the Report
To make sure that the core concepts are fully understood, I will summarize everything that I have just outlined in a succinct paragraph at the end of the report. Normally, I try to switch up my words a little bit to give the client another style of language; opening up a comparative contrast. After the summary, I will then give three (and just three) tips for lifestyle adjustments that are uniquely formulated based on what I have outlined in the report. My clients find this part very helpful because the report is a focused picking-out of stressors, so giving them a roadmap to re-balance helps to offset the darkness with a light at the end of the tunnel.

Following the methods of balancing, I sign the report off with my logo and contact information. This serves multiple purposes such as branding, adding a professional look and letting the client know that they can always reach me should they have any questions post-receiving. After my signature comes a brief disclaimer to remind my client and anyone else who seeing the report of my true intentions. I am not a doctor, I am not diagnosing, prescribing, or treating for a specific condition – nor do I want to! – I am simply educating based on Reflexology and Foot Reading theory.

The purpose of such a report is to provide guidance, a fresh perspective and an accessible means of self-reflection. I am essentially a body coach; I convey the body’s messages via the feet to the client and help to advocate for the infinite intelligence of that body when considering lifestyle changes.

My name is Sam Belyea, I am a Foot Reader; meaning that I read the feet. It just so happens that I have come up with a way to share my knowledge and experience through a written medium known at a Foot Reading Report. The next time you look down at your feet and think your body might be telling you something – trust me, it is…. And that’s where I come in.
